Seeds of Change... A Word of Thanks from Selena

Thank you to all the amazing friends, family, and clients, who continually offered their support and love during my Mother's battle with Alzheimer's Disease.  Mom slipped away from us just before Thanksgiving, and I miss her every single moment of the day.

One of the first memories I have of my Mom is holding her hand as I arrived at my first day of kindergarten, as she reassured me that I would be okay without her. The last memory I have of her will be holding her hand as she left us, and reassuring her that we would be okay without her...

I am not accepting any weddings at this time--just trying to catch my breath and figure out what the future holds for me and my camera.  I thank you all for letting me have such an intimate glimpse into all your lives and loves.  It has been an honor.

Kamron ~ Bellingham Portrait Session

A beautiful sunny evening, an old weathered train station, and the photography magic just happened.  I love it!  I had the pleasure of photographing Kamron once again, and I am hoping this becomes an annual engagement for the two of us.  Kam is so at ease in front of the camera, and I got to experiment with some creative lighting and a little HDR imagery.  Thanks for a great evening Kam, I always enjoy the creative energy that you inspire within me.

Brittany and Matt's Woodsy, Princess Bride Inspired Wedding

When we arrived at Berthusen Park I was, to be honest, a little concerned about having to photograph Brittany and the girls getting ready in the park bathrooms.  I perused the outhouses, and tried to think of creative ways to make them look... less scary.  I scanned the park for signs of a bridal party, and they were nowhere in sight.  I hoped that maybe I was in the wrong part of the park.  And then, as I was heading back to my car, I spotted it...  Brittany had brought her own dressing room to the beautiful Berthusen woods, and it was utterly and completely perfect.  My heart skipped a beat, and I knew it was going to be a great day...

The first time I met Brittany, I just KNEW I was going to love photographing her wedding.  She is beautiful, funny, creative, and was determined to make the day reflect her sense of whimsy and individuality.  She did not disappoint, and this day was utterly delicious from start to finish.  Thank you Matt and Brittany for letting us be your photographers--you guys are incredible, and I hope you have an amazing life in Hawaii.  xoxo

Ha!  This makes me giggle every time I see it.  This is the real Matt and Brittany--sweet and goofy, and impossible not to like.   :)

Niki and Daniel... It's All in the Details!

It's hard to believe that it's been over a year and a half since I first met Niki and Daniel. Their wedding seemed like it was so far away, and now so much time has passed and new beginnings have sprung forward. Niki and her amazing wedding planner Zeina planned an elegant and beautiful wedding, at an equally elegant and beautiful venue--Evergreen Gardens. Everywhere I looked, the details were endless and breathtaking, as you will see...

A heartfelt thank you to all the amazing people who helped make this such an amazing night for all of us: Zeina from Ever After Events for being so creative and sweet to work with, Patty and Ray from Evergreen Gardens for being so thoughtful and for creating such a beautiful space, JT from Whatcom Sound for being one of the best DJ's we've ever worked with, Andy from Pure Bliss Desserts for making such an incredible looking (and tasting) cake, Leah and Anna from Tart Beauty for keeping all the girls' hair and makeup on schedule and for making everyone look amazing all night, Cindy Brown from Brown Studios Photography for being such a tireless and upbeat second photographer, the wedding party for being so much fun (especially DK), and most importantly Daniel and Niki for being such a dream to work with.
I thank you all for letting me share this moment in your lives, and for making it such a sweet and memorable night.

Engaging Engagements... Looking Back

Ah, it's Spring again!  And Spring for photographers means engagement sessions, and an opportunity to get to know our 2012 wedding clients.  It's an exciting time, and one of my favorites honestly, because it gives me an opportunity to really connect with my couples.  Beyond that, it's our chance to create stunning and creative images without having to watch the clock or stay on a schedule.  I really love this time, and so I wanted to share some of my favorite engagement sessions from the past.  They are compiled of the kind of moments that I live for.  When the forces of nature aligned together and bestowed upon me the perfect combination of light, chemistry, and of course... true love.  :)

Nate and Kristi

Only one word can best describe the day I spent with Nate and Kristi.  HOT!  This session had it all, and felt more like a vacation than work.  The setting was San Francisco on a hot summer day.  The sand was burning my my toes, the waves were roaring on the beach, and my subjects were so completely into each other, it was like we weren't even there.  Oh yeah, and did I mention that he plays guitar and she is a professional hula hooper?  Dang I love my job...

Chris and Erinn

Oh swoon...  Gorgeous dancer and handsome sailor--what more could a photographer ask for?  These two were so playful and sexy, and we caught the perfect light up at the WWU campus.  In a word--stunning!

Terence and Alyson

Oh my gosh, what a fun and amazing day I got to spend with Alyson and Terence.  We found a million cool little nooks down in Fairhaven, and then hiked waaaay down the railroad tracks to find a rocky point overlooking the water.  The best part of the day was when they opened their guitar cases, sat on the sidewalk, and started playing for the tourists.  People watched in fascination, some random guy tossed a dollar in their case, and I just happily clicked away.  Terence has a gorgeous voice, and Alyson can hold her own in that department as well.  It was one of those unplanned and unabashedly cool moments that life throws my way every now and then.

Life is good...
